Welcome, Elder & Sister Stone
We gratefully welcome Elder
Stone of the Seventy with his wife to the Canada Montreal Mission. It is a great privilege to receive
instruction and inspiration from a General Authority of the Church and a member
of our Area Presidency. We learn in
Doctrine and Covenants 107:25, 34 --
The Seventy are also called
to preach the gospel, and to be especial witnesses unto the Gentiles and in all
the world.... The Seventy are to act in
the name of the Lord, under the direction of the Twelve... in building up the
church and regulating all the affairs of the same in all nations, first unto
the Gentiles and then to the Jews.
Notes from the Field
Recently I was teaching an
older Native American man a first discussion.
I was explaining the Book of Mormon and when I said how Jesus Christ
visited the people on the American continent, this man said, “Yeah, he visited
all these people. He showed the marks
in his hands. Our grandparents told us
these things.” I was stunned – this is
obviously not the response we are used to receiving as missionaries. How interesting to see that these beliefs
have been passed down from generation to generation and exist even today. Elder Clayton
I’ve really dug the branch
choir. It’s rejuvenating. I don’t know what I’m doing, but I love
it. Sister Fisher is so funny. Elder Carlson
It was just one of those
weeks. Email didn’t work, I got stuck I
the snow, I couldn’t find where someone lived because their address was wrong
on their box, I lost my “new” license, my pants ripped, and our fireside
started forty minutes late because everyone just takes their time. After all this I had ONE awesome appointment
where I felt the spirit so strong and the rest doesn’t matter. Man I love being a missionary! Elder Chmielewski
There is a lot of diversity
in Montreal and I've seen all types of races, religions and groups. The more I
see about the world and other religions the more my testimony grows of the
truthfulness of the gospel. This church is something solid that someone can
hold on to and keep him on the path to happiness, instead of being blown about
with every wind of doctrine. Elder Ahlstrom
From New Members
I have found that with the
church I feel more prepared to return to the presence of Heavenly Father, and
know that because I feel closer to Him.
I feel His love as my relationship with Him grows. It is as if I have always been Mormon but
did not have the words for this Mormon language so it is like I did not
have a practice and vocabulary of my true nature until after my baptism. It is as if last December 13 I learned a new
language. I have had many blessings
learning about my true nature as I feel I belong to the right spot.... I feel blessed, as there is nothing more
exciting than knowing that my work will help build the Lord’s Kingdom on
Earth.

Patisseries and Poutines
Pats to Elder Robins for
doing the Heimlech maneuver and saving Elder King from dying on a chicken
chunk. Pouts to Elder Pruett for hot fingers, as certified by the Fire
Department.
(Pats and Pouts, cont.)
Pats to Elder Donaldson for
experiencing pain, and asking for testimonies. Pouts to Elder Borrowman for
condemning himself to... a bad place.
Pouts to Elder Stewart for losing his keys in a member’s couch while
watching a movie (ok, a church video).
Pouts to Elder West, companion of Elder Stewart, for giving his keys to
the Rimouski elders and not realizing it until they had already left Quebec
City to return home. Pats to Elder C.
Hansen for “committed” enthusiasm.
Pouts to the Saguenay elders for coming in 15th and 16th
in the Ice Sculpture competition, out of 16.
Pats to Elder Paredes for being mistaken for Enrique Iglesias. Pats to all those who mourn, for they shall
be comforted. Pats to Elder Mora for
not being an Arab terrorist with a funny accent fleeing his accusers as he
secretly plots to blow up Quebec snow removal equipment – even if the Gatineau
police are not convinced. So much for
our clean-cut image. Pats to Elder Holt
for defending Elder Mora to the Gatineau police department. Pats to the Gatineau police department for
keeping the snow removal equipment of Quebec safe from dangerous,
foreign-sounding, Arabic looking... picture takers! Pats to Sister Loynes for beating Elder Durand at arm wrestling
(just how does one beat someone at arm wrestling from arm’s distance?) Pats to
Elders Bricker and Ramussen for turning down the cannabis offered them. Pouts to Elder Unwin for soliciting kisses
on Valentine’s Day (??). Pats to
Concordia Zone and other kind souls who remembered Sr. Ulrich’s birthday.

Thanks to all...
I would like to thank everyone in the mission for the support I have received
since the death of my mother. I still
receive cards from different missionaries. It has been a great strength and
help to me. It has strengthened my
testimony so much seeing the gospel in action and to see us fulfilling our
covenants that we made when we were baptized, “to mourn with those that mourn;
yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort.” I think this was the best place and time
that this could have happened. It
showed me how much I love this gospel and how lucky we are to have this and to
be sharing it with others! We are truly
blessed! I was going to send cards to
everyone but that is a lot of people so I thought this was the best way. As Elder Weigel told me, “One person’s loss
is another one’s gain.” It is so
true. I could go on for pages thanking
you for the help yo have given me.
I love this gospel and being a missionary. It has been the best experience of my life! I know this is the true church because I’ve
seen the happiness it brings me and my family and I want others to have that
joy. I love you all and thank you
again, my friends.
