Be Positive!

President Hinckley recently published a book for youth called, Way to Be!  In that spirit, our theme for the next six weeks is: Be Positive!  Be positive about the truthfulness of your message!  Be positive in attitude and faith!  Be positive with members and investigators!  With a little extra Aplus@ added to all we do, we can Aadd@ joy to our lives and converts to the kingdom of God.  God promises, AInasmuch as you do this, glory shall be added to the kingdom which you have received@ (D&C 43:10).

People who study joy B our overall life satisfaction B discover that momentary or passive pleasures do not add to long-term good feelings.  (In fact, the emotional state most often associated with TV watching is mild depression!)  Using our Asignature strengths@ to contribute to the world, overcoming obstacles to accomplish meaningful goals, finding a sense of calling in our work, and building rich relationships with other people B even though these things take more effort and sacrifice B increase people=s life satisfaction long-term.

As we multiply our finding skills, increase our faith and  resilience, and add enthusiasm to our work with members and investigators, the sum total will be 9+1+1++. We=re positive!!  (To find out how that all adds up to 7, come to zone conference.)

We=ll Have Nunavut!

Elder and Sister Salmon held the first sacrament meeting in the territory of Nunavut on August 22, 2004, with 2 members.  They also discovered  4 other inactive members in the capital city of Iqaluit.  We welcome Nunavut to the CMM!

Miracles and Memories

After sharing the first discussion with Annette, she asked, ADo we have any more writings of Joseph Smith?@  We taught her a bit about the Book of Mormon, and when she got it in her hands she started going through the pages and said, AI can=t wait to get to know these prophets: Alma, Nephi, Moroni.@  We are excited to see her again.  (Sr.  McDowell)

Sunday night we needed invites to get our 108.  We saw a couple sitting down, so we went to talk with them.  We had the privilege of testifying of the restoration.  Her eyes teared up.  She said it was because she was touched by us, two 20-year-olds devoting two years of our lives to the Lord.  (Elder Wiebe)

Right before we were going to tract a street name popped into my head, so we went there.  I knocked on a door of a Chinese family.  they were looking for the nearest church to go to.  They also wanted to learn more about God and Jesus Christ.  They are so awesome!   (Elder Stevens)

We saw a group of thugster looking guys who called us over to chat.  We got into the Joseph Smith story and they were dead silent.  We gave them a Book of Mormon, then had to leave.  A few days later I received a call from ASamuel.@  I had no idea who he was. [He had joined the group just after we left and picked up the Book of Mormon.  He had decided a few weeks before to change his life, and this was an answer to his prayers.]  He called us.   We had to pass him off, but I=m sure something good will happen.   Elder Price

From New Members

I first met the missionaries a long time ago.  I was afraid of them.  It was all so new to me, quite overwhelming.  However thru my adulthood I was always drawn to them, asking questions, wishing I could accept their messages as truth.  The time was not right.  I continued to go from church to church trying to find that missing piece and peace.  I kept coming up empty.  Seven years ago a knock came at the door and there were two missionaries.  Once again I tried having them teach me.  I could not go through with baptism.  Now I am married.  I was given a book which said, AIf you want your spouse to change, ask God to change you first.@  So, I asked God to change me.  I picked up the phone and called for the missionaries.  I was sure this church would change our lives for the better, and it has.  This is a miracle.  I know this is the true Church of Jesus Christ, and I am not afraid to stand up and say so.  People see a difference in me.  They are asking questions and I am answering them.  I have never been happier or truly felt the Holy Spirit until this time.  My search is over and the peace has come.  I am Home.  (Sherbrooke)
