Children of the Covenant

In dedicating the Kirtland temple, Joseph Smith prayed, “Put upon thy servants the testimony of the covenant” (D&C 109:38). As heirs of God’s covenant promises, we carry His message of love and hope to  the world. We are commissioned to search out scattered Israel, gather them to the Lord’s kingdom, and bring them the opportunity to reclaim their promised blessings.

We know that we promised before this life to share God’s message with the world if given the chance to learn of it ourselves. As such we were born or adopted into the covenant lineage of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. We promised not only to value and live the gospel, but to share it.  In turn God promises to make us rightful heirs to all He has.

As messengers of the covenant, we testify that God will keep covenant with those who keep His commandments and take upon them the name of Christ.

Notes from the Field

Being a senior companion is harder than it looks, but I have a great junior to help me.  My spiritual highlight this week was teaching a media referral.  A young mom and her two kids who have faith in Christ but are looking for something more.  The eyes of the children sparkled as we talked about the importance of Jesus Christ.  They are so innocent.  The spirit was strong.  For a brief moment I could really speak French!  Sr. Viland

The other night we went out tracting, and there really wasn't anything good coming out of it.  So we decide to go and do some less-active work. I see a name of someone I know nothing about.  So, I find out where he lives, and he happens to be on the way home from where the road was that we had tracted. As we knock on the door, his wife is astounded to see us.  She runs off to get her husband. He comes up and is just plain shocked that we are there. He then explains that they had just finished watching "On the Way Home,” a church video about a family that meets the missionaries and gets baptized. He had watched it with his son, and they both were really touched by it. Then he picked up his Book of Mormon, and his son asked him some questions, and then right after that, we came a knocking on the door. We set up an appointment to come back to talk to him about coming back to church, which he wants to do, and also teaching his son and possibly his wife. This work truly is led by the Lord, for it is His work.  Elder Bingham

The first morning that we had together my new comp and I set some transfer goals, and then left to offer a prayer in Gatineau Park to present our goals to our Heavenly Father.  It was a neat experience.  We are not alone in our do.   Elder Hyde

We saw the funeral of Sister Hinckley.  Its a hard thing for our President Hinckley and his family but I was really impressed by the attitude of their children.  They lost their mother but they continued to smile and have a peace about this event.  It’s wonderful to know the plan of salvation and know that death is not the end.  I’m so grateful to have this knowledge in my life and I hope I have the opportunity to explain this to a lot of people soon.  Elder Chevé

Priesthood is an amazing thing.  A while back we were at a member’s home for dinner.  We chatted about our current problems with an investigator who claims no one has the higher priesthood but Jesus Christ and Melchizedek.  We scrutinized the scriptures, but how to prove to our investigator that we have the Melchizedek Priesthood?  Right then a young lady staying with them started having problems in the other room.  She was hyperventilating pretty bad.  We gave her a blessing with the power of the Melchizedek Priesthood, and before the “Amen” she was fine.  If only our investigator was there to see that moment.  Alma 32:17-21 has a lot more meaning to me now.  I am so privileged to be a missionary in this last dispensation.  Elder Holmes

From New Members

The gospel has brought so much happiness into my life.  It has given me the opportunity to participate in many activities and meet many people.  But most important, it has let me develop a relationship with my Heavenly Father and find peace in this life.  It has let me get to know my Savior, Jesus Christ, and understand His atoning sacrifice.  It has let me feel the witness of the Holy ghost and the love that Heavenly Father has for me and all of His children.  I have been able to use what I’ve learnt in the gospel to bring my family closer together.  Even though I am the only member in my house, I try to bring the Savior’s love into our home.  Because of the gospel, I have been able to hold regular Family Home Evenings and teach my family a new gospel principle every week.  I have been able to bring prayer into my house when we bless the food every night.  I have been able to resolve disputations and bring true happiness to my family.  I have been able to do all this with the help of my Heavenly Father.  He has blessed me with a loving mother and sister.  It does not matter to me that they are not members; it only means that I get to be a missionary every day.

Mitch Boucher, Fallowfield Ward
